Fugitive murder suspect wanted in UK arrested in Lisbon

A 25-year-old Portuguese man wanted in the United Kingdom on suspicion of murder has been arrested in Lisbon, according to Portugal’s PJ police.

The arrest was carried out by the PJ’s Criminal Information Unit following an investigation into crimes that took place in November 2020 in Manchester, England.

According to authorities, the suspect was a member of an “organised gang” involved in a violent confrontation arranged through social media. Armed with knives, sabres, baseball bats and other weapons, two rival groups allegedly clashed in what police described as serious assaults.

The man is suspected of fatally stabbing another individual during the fight.

After the incident, he returned to Portugal, where he had been working in construction without being officially registered.

He will now appear before the Lisbon Court of Appeal, where judges will decide on the appropriate preventive measures.
