Whether you’re a fan of enchanted sunsets served up with exquisite performances in an exclusive setting or of the grand open-air concerts, Vale do Lobo embodies the spirit of the season. Building on the success of previous years, this year’s events promise even more emotions, sound and rhythm for the whole family.
Taking place from the 10th June to the 2nd September, the 2023 summer music events programme at Vale do Lobo is a harmonious blend of excellence, showcasing intimate music sessions featuring jazz, fado, classical rhythms, Latin melodies, samba, bossa nova, blues, and world music. Moreover, the programme includes two magnificent tribute concerts on the green, honouring the legendary Aretha Franklin and ABBA.
Starting in June, the resort will host a series of intimate music sessions at the Tennis Academy. These exclusive concerts will take place on Saturdays at 8pm, every fortnight, creating unforgettable experiences for a limited audience. With a bar service available and the option of dinner reservations at the Ténis Café, these events are the perfect opportunity to savour a summer afternoon with your loved ones. Nestled in a newly developed lounge area overlooking the tennis courts and the surrounding pinewood, these concerts embrace a relaxed and informal atmosphere that appeals to all ages. Its diverse musical programme brings together formations and artists of exceptional quality representing various genres, including samba, fado, jazz, soul, classical, and pop.
The debut of Sunset Samba by Sambambas – Roda de Samba kicks off these summer intimate concerts programme on June 10. This vibrant event promises an evening of pure rhythm and musicality that will captivate all the audience, in a unique sunset setting. On June 24, the “Strings in Harmony” concert features the talented TerraSul duo, with Ricardo J. Martins (Portuguese Guitar) and Vítor Bacalhau (Electric Guitar), delivering an inspiring evening of pure melody. On July 8, the renowned fado singer Carla Pires, accompanied by André M. Santos (classical guitar) and João Vaz (Portuguese guitar), will perform her most emblematic songs in the not-to-be-missed “Echoes of Fado When the Sun Goes Down” concert.
One of the resort’s most anticipated events returns this year will happen on the 22nd July with the Aretha Franklin Tribute open-air concert on the golf course. Yolanda Sikara and her Think band musicians will pay homage to the one and only Aretha Franklin, taking the audience on a soulful journey through her greatest hits, including well-known songs such as “Respect”, “Think”, “Natural Woman”, and many more, played in a concert filled with the best Soul music ever and a unique chance to experience the timeless magic of Aretha’s music like never before. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or new to her music, this tribute concert is not to be missed!
In August, the enchanting atmosphere continues with the “Jazz Evening with a Latin Flavour” concert by João Frade trio on August 5 at the Tennis Academy venue. João Frade, alongside Michael Olivera and Yarel Hernandez, promises an evening filled with memorable jazz moments, musicality, and talent. The trio’s creations, often simple melodies enhanced with sophisticated harmonies and unconventional rhythmic patterns, will undoubtedly captivate the audience.
On August 19, prepare yourself to be immersed in an intoxicating fusion of Afrobeat, soul, funk, jazz, and global sounds with the “World Music Fusion Under the Stars” concert by Plasticine. This contagious and unforgettable show of rhythm and sound, featuring a blazing brass section, guitars, keyboards, and a dynamic drum/percussion base, will leave a lasting impression.
Last but certainly not least, Vale do Lobo proudly presents the ABBA tribute sunset concert on the golf course as the grand finale of this year’s summer events. Taking place on the 2nd September at 7.30pm, this concert will transport you into the magic of ABBA. The talented musicians of the Abba Inferno band will deliver electrifying performances of ABBA’s greatest hits, including “Waterloo” and “The Winner Takes It All.” So, get ready to dance the night away and experience the energy and passion that made ABBA such an iconic group.
